Woman holding down suitcase to close
October 20, 2014

We understand that packing for vacation is one of the most tedious tasks. If you’re anything like us, you probably just want to throw things in a bag and hit the road to Pigeon Forge. Unfortunately, packing takes a little more effort than that if you want to be efficient and save space in your car. Before you really start packing, take a couple of minutes to read through these questions, and you’ll have a much better packing experience. We guarantee it!

1. How long will I be gone?

First, it’s best to know exactly how long you will be gone. If you’re thinking about packing, you’ve probably already booked your Pigeon Forge condo rental. Whether you are staying for 2 nights, 7 nights or longer, you won’t need that much in your suitcase. At Cherokee Lodge Condominiums, you will find a washer and dryer in your condo. This means you can pack less and just do a little laundry while you’re visiting.

2. What activities will I be doing?

To make packing easier, go ahead and plan out each of the day’s activities. This way, you know exactly what you need for each day and you don’t have to worry about figuring out which outfit to wear. If you’re planning on hiking, you’re going to need to make sure to pack some comfortable clothes and tennis shoes or hiking boots. If you plan to visit attractions and restaurants on the Parkway, you can get away with some casual clothes. Everything in Pigeon Forge is pretty casual, so you shouldn’t need anything too dressy for your trip.

3. Is this bag too big?Top view of hands packing a suitcase full of clothes

Once you have set your plans, it’s time to choose a bag to pack in. First, choose only one bag and pack everything in that one bag. Second, choose a bag that isn’t too big. If you give yourself the space of a larger bag, you will fill it to the brim. Instead, plan to pack in a smaller bag, and you will be much happier not having to drag the bag around. When you pack in a smaller bag, you will also wear everything in your suitcase, so you won’t have a lot of extras that never get touched while you’re away.

4. Which items can I put back?

Here’s a general rule for packing your suitcase: After you’ve laid out all of the clothes you want to take with you, take a few minutes and put half of them away. This may seem a little crazy at first, but give it a try and you will be surprised at how well it works! You will notice that you overpack a lot more than you imagined. Almost always, you can put about half of your clothes back into your closet. This will save you a lot of space, and you will also have less to worry about while you’re away.

5. Do I really need all of these books?

One thing people pack a lot of when they take a vacation: BOOKS! It seems like many people have the hopes they will wake up early in the morning, make a hot cup of coffee, sit outside and read through their novel. While this sounds relaxing and enjoyable, not many people actually follow through with this plan. So, instead, pack only one (maybe two!) books or magazines for your trip. In even the longest vacation, you won’t make it through both books or magazines unless you’re planning to spend a lot of time at the condo. You’ll probably spend most of your days exploring Pigeon Forge, and you may do a little reading at night. So, you aren’t going to need your entire library!
