The 2013 Pigeon Forge Rod Run takes place from Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21. This annual Pigeon Forge event is one of the largest car shows in the USA. Thousands of hot rods and visitors descend on Pigeon Forge during this weekend to enjoy the festivities. The Pigeon Forge Rod Run is actually one of three huge car shows that take place in Pigeon Forge each year, along with Shades of the Past and the Fall Grand Rod Run. Many visitors arrive days before the event to enjoy all of the other attractions available in the Pigeon Forge area. Visitors should note that the area activities, attractions and restaurants will be packed during the event days.
The Pigeon Forge Rod Run essentially takes place all over town, but the headquarters for the event are located midway along the Pigeon Forge parkway at the Grand Resort Hotel and Convention Center. The judging, awards, vendors and other activities take place at this headquarters location. Visitors who would like to attend the festivities at the headquarters can pay a $10 fee which will allow access to the show location all weekend. Parking is available at the Pigeon Forge municipal lot and daily shuttles will run back and forth to the Grand Resort Hotel and Convention Center.
The best place to view the classic cars during the Pigeon Forge Rod Run is by simply walking along the Pigeon Forge parkway. During all hours of the event, day and night, the cars can be seen cruising and parked along the parkway. Many visitors to the event simply set up chairs along the parkway to enjoy all of the action. Note that many of these areas are located directly in the sun so visitors should plan accordingly. Visitors to the Pigeon Forge Rod Run should also plan ahead for heavy traffic as the classic cars will gridlock the Pigeon Forge parkway for the duration of the event.
